River Watch in anticipation of Valentine's Day.

Monday, February 9, 2009 (Makha Bucha Day in Thailand)

Making merit by making sure that two soi dogs get a proper meal.

BTW, for long term readers of this site this is also the first home of Mr. Ben. Do you remember him? Lawyer, fortune teller, detective and many other professions. Actually, quite a nice guy.

Any guesses about this?

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

Only one person attempted a guess as to what were the contents of yesterday's two photos. She was wrong.

The two photos were out of focus ground shots of my latest Bangkok cache. I hid the cache in a small tunnel beneath one of the many large rocks that can be found in Bangkok's Lumpini park. If you want to visit the cache's web site just click here:

PS: Hundreds of readers have asked me to reveal the name of the person who guessed at the contents of yesterday's photos. Here is her emailed guess.

While I know it is crude, your photo looks like a rhino's ass to me. Hmmmmh ... a rhino pooping something very yellow. Yellow roses after a rhino has digested them? You old romantic you. I'll try to follow your train of thought:

rhino shit
yellow rhino shit
pretty good yellow rhino shit
pretty good rhino shit
pretty good shit
good shit

It looks like our neighbors to the north and to the northwest are about to start some serious construction. To the north they plan to erect a Novotel, while on the northwest property they plan to build a Ritz Carlton hotel.

When we moved to the Athenee several months ago, both of these properties had existing ... albeit, largely run down ... buildings on the land. I don't know for certain, but it seems that these two construction sites are somewhat related. The demolition of the old structures, the erection of barrier fences and the importation of construction cranes took place on the two land parcels at about the same time .... give or take a few days.

Land in this part of Bangkok is quite expensive ... to the point where people will build something on even the slimmest slice and most awkwardly shaped piece of dirt. Recall that wedge of a building just a block south of Soi Zero? OK, here are another two shots of something that should be in the Guiness Book of Records.

Next door our neighbor is growing more of those mysterious blue boxes. What are they? From afar they looked like shipping containers but up close they look like something quite different ... molds for concrete piles?

Roses, candy, balloons (*) and a funny cartoon. What more does V Day in Bangkok want?

(*) Where did this huge helium balloon come from and where did it land? This is so un-Bangkok-ian!

PS. Last love on V. Day.
